Josef L. Altholz (1933–2003) taught history at the University of Minnesota for over forty years. During his distinguished academic career he was a founding member and the second president of the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals, served as president of the American Catholic Historical Society, and was coeditor of The Correspondence of Lord Acton and Richard Simpson.
