Thomas de Vio Cardinal Cajetan (1469–1534), a Dominican theologian and philosopher, was a leading advocate of Thomism whose commentaries on St. Thomas’s Summa represent his most enduring scholarly contribution. Cajetan also wrote dozens of other works, including biblical commentaries and treatises on philosophical and economic topics. Arguably one of the most important church leaders of his era, he is perhaps most famous for serving as the papal legate to Germany and attempting to persuade Martin Luther to recant.
