The United States is often called a nation of immigrants, yet according to a recent Gallup poll, the percentage of Americans who want to curb immigration is at its highest level since 2001. The debate over immigration also creates strange bedfellows, with union leaders and national conservatives inclined to build walls while libertarians and human rights activists favor more bridges. But are underlying attitudes and perspectives towards immigration that different? To find out, we hope you will join us for a panel discussion sponsored by Braver Angels, America's largest bipartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to the work of political depolarization. The panel features:
- Aaron Ahuvia, Ph.D. (Professor of Marketing, University of Michigan, Dearborn) - moderator
- Stephen Barrows, Ph.D. (Chief Operating Officer, Acton Institute) - panelist
- Ann Chih Lin, Ph.D. (Associate Professor of Public Policy, University of Michigan) - panelist
- Jim Robb (VP of Alliances, Numbers USA) - panelist
Through this dialogue we hope to explore the values, personal experiences, and sources of evidence that drive these different perspectives. Civic renewal can only be achieved through brave conversations, and we hope you will join us as these panelists listen to their fellow citizens on a topic of perennial interest in the public square.
