Series Description
Poverty and those living in impoverished situations are frequent subjects of heated debate. This lecture series explore the theme of human flourishing as it is related to poverty, globalization, and the Church in the developed world. The series begins by introducing a theological framework for thinking about globalization. The following three sessions apply this Christian framework to discussions of human flourishing in the larger context of entrepreneurship, stewardship, and trade.

Dr. Victor Claar
Victor V. Claar, Ph.D., is professor of economics at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he teaches courses in economics to undergraduates and graduates. He recently was a Fulbright Scholar at the American University of Armenia where he conducted research and gave lectures to graduate students. Professor Claar has a long record of publications, including his book, Economics in Christian Perspective: Theory, Policy and Life Choices and Fair Trade? Its Prospects as a Poverty Solution.
Mr. Brett Elder
Brett Elder is a director of collaborative initiatives at the Acton Institute. The former director of finance and administration in the early years of the Acton Institute, he departed in 2000 to launch International Steward, a ministry dedicated to encouraging mature stewardship in the emerging church around the world. He continues to serve as senior partner for International Steward and as the founder and executive director of the Stewardship Council; the creator of the NIV Stewardship Study Bible.
Dr. Samuel Gregg
Dr. Samuel Gregg is Research Director at Acton Institute. He has written and spoken extensively on questions of political economy, economic history, ethics in finance, and natural law theory. He has an MA in political philosophy from the University of Melbourne, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in moral philosophy from the University of Oxford, which he attended as a Commonwealth Scholar. He is the author of several books, including On Ordered Liberty, The Commercial Society, The Modern Papacy, Wilhelm Ropke’s Political Economy, and most recently Becoming Europe: Economic Decline, Culture and How America can Avoid a European Future.
Ms. Anielka Münkel
Anielka Münkel was in born in Nicaragua and is a project manager at Acton Institute. She holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, where she won the Grand Prize in the Social Venture Plan Competition. She earned a bachelor’s in International Relations and Business Administration with concentrations in Global Business and Finance from Ave Maria College of the Americas. The former Advisor to the Minister of Tourism, she also served as the Coordinator of the Government Investor Network at the Investment Promotion Agency of the Presidency in Nicaragua.
