Rev. Robert A. Sirico is known by many as a public intellectual. He is often in the pages of prominent newspapers or on the radio or television, being called upon for statements regarding economics, civil rights, and issues of religious concern. In addition to his duties as president of the Acton Institute, Rev. Sirico serves on the staff of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is the founder of a new religious community, St. Philip Neri House, also in Grand Rapids. Rev. Sirico received his Master of Divinity degree from the Catholic University of America, with undergraduate study at the University of Southern California and the University of London. He holds an honorary doctorate in Christian ethics from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, as well as an honorary doctorate in social sciences from Universidad Francisco Marroquin.
The Honorable George W. Strake, Jr., Chairman of the Board and CEO of Strake Energy, Inc., has been in the energy business since 1961. He served as Texas Secretary of State from 1979 to 1981, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas from 1983 to 1988, and Co-Chairman of the Houston Host Committee for the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Board of the Free Enterprise Institute, Mr. Strake serves on the board of Boy Scouts of America, Sam Houston Area Council, University of Notre Dame Arts & Letters Advisory Council, Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and Texas Public Policy Foundation. He is also an active board member for several charitable foundations including the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Foundation, the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation, and the Strake Foundation, on which he serves as President. Mr. Strake and his wife, Annette DeWalch Strake, have six children and seventeen grandchildren.
Martin Nicholas has led Sugar Land Methodist church as senior pastor since 1994, after serving as executive pastor at Chapelwood Methodist in Houston, Texas for five years. The church is known for its strong missional outreach to the underprivileged and needy, both locally and globally. In the city of Sugar Land, his involvement includes chairing the city’s Ethical Task Force, membership on the Multi‐Cultural task force, as well as the Vision Team. He is also a member of the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation and serves as a board member of the Sugar Land Methodist Hospital. He is also an active board member of UM Action in Washington D.C., as well as serving on the board of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, a leading advocacy alliance working to protect religious freedom and strengthen democracy at home and abroad. Martin is married to Pat Nicholas, a registered nurse, and they have two children and three grandchildren.
