What is the deadline for applying to an Acton Institute internship?

We accept interns on a rolling basis. The Acton Institute internship program is competitive, candidates who submit their application early are more likely to be placed in the internship program.

Semester internship program dates can be more flexible in order to accommodate school schedules. Our summer internship dates are not flexible.


What are the requirements to intern at Acton Institute?

The Acton Institute requires that all candidates have a 3.0 GPA or higher. However, our most successful internship applicants have a 3.5 GPA or higher. We accept rising juniors, seniors, recent graduates and graduate students into the program.


Do interns have the opportunity to attend Acton University?

All Acton Institute interns have the opportunity to both work and attend the annual Acton University conference that brings over 1,000 people from 80 countries.


How much does the internship pay?

The Acton Institute summer internship provides a stipend of $1,000 for the 8-week program.

Our semester internship programs vary depending on the length of the internship.


Are Acton Internship program stipends taxable?

The stipend participants receive is taxable by the IRS and may be taxable by other tax authorities. Participants are responsible for reporting the stipend on their taxes.


Do I have to move to Grand Rapids to participate in the Acton Institute internship program?

The Acton Institute internship program requires that all interns relocate to Grand Rapids for the duration of their internship. You can learn more about the vibrant Grand Rapids community here.


Does the Acton Institute provide housing?

Housing is provided for Acton Institute summer interns at the convenient Grand Valley State University Downtown Campus – less than one mile from the Acton building. If you do not plan to bring a car to Grand Rapids, the apartment complex is located near a main bus route. You can view the Grand Rapids bus schedule here.


What opportunities exist after the programs?

Acton Institute places a high priority on helping interns with job placement at the conclusion of their internship. Our alumni relations department assists with placing program participants in careers throughout our network. Acton Institute has gone on to hire five ex-interns in the past two years.


Do you accept applicants through the Charles Koch Institute?

Yes, we encourage students to apply for an Acton Institute internship through one of the many Charles Koch Institute summer/semester programs.
