Dr. Marvin Olasky, architect of the Bush administration’s controversial "compassionate conservatism," will speak as part of the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty’s spring lecture series on Monday, April 2, 2001. The lecture will take place at the Ladies Literary Club in downtown Grand Rapids at 7:30 p.m.
Titled "The Angel in the Details: Compassionate Conservatism’s Opportunities and Perils," Dr. Olasky’s lecture will articulate a principled approach to public policy issues, especially the new administration’s work with faith based charities.
General admission tickets for the event are available for $8.00 by calling Acton Institute at (616) 454-3080.
Dr. Olasky is a key advisor to President Bush, a professor of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, a senior fellow at the Acton Institute, and the editor of World, a national weekly newsmagazine, written from a biblical perspective.
Dr. Olasky has written thirteen books of history and cultural analysis, including Compassionate Conservatism, The American Leadership Tradition, The Tragedy of American Compassion, Fighting for Liberty and Virtue and Abortion Rites. He has co-authored seven more books and was general editor of the Turning Point Christian Worldview series.
Dr. Olasky’s lecture is the first in the 2001 Lord Acton Lecture Series. On May 3, 2001, as a continuation of this series, Acton Institute will host noted author Dinesh D’Souza, who will give a lecture titled, "Is Greed Good? Capitalism has won the Economic Debate, but is the Capitalist a Good Guy?" All lectures in the Lord Acton Lecture Series are open to the public.
