A Vulnerable World

This unique event will offer insight into the world of human trafficking. Elise Hilton, author of A Vulnerable World: The High Price of Human Trafficking will speak about trafficking on both the global and local levels. Artist Pamela Alderman, whose work The Scarlet Cord will be on display, will discuss her ArtPrize experience of depicting human trafficking. While trafficking is a difficult topic, both Hilton and Alderman desire to give hope and a clear call-to-action to attendees.

About the Speakers

"Your art speaks of healing,” said New York artist Makoto Fujimura when Pamela Alderman stood in his book-signing line and showed him her homemade portfolio. Years earlier, her dad had taught her how to draw by sketching on dinner napkins. When she reached fifth grade, Pamela’s mom enrolled her in lessons. Years later, visitors voted her work The Scarlet Cord into the Top 25 Installations at ArtPrize 2014. Currently, eleven Children’s Hospitals from Philadelphia to San Diego showcase Pamela’s work. Since Fujimura empowered Pamela’s creativity, almost 40,000  visitors have encountered within her work art’s healing catalyst. By creating meaningful installations, Pamela’s work has helped people process pain and experience healing.

Elise Graveline Hilton holds a B.A. in religious studies from Alma College and an M.A. in world religions from Western Michigan University. After taking time to raise her five children, she returned to the paid workforce a decade ago. As the Communications Specialist for the Acton Institute, she writes regularly at the Acton PowerBlog and speaks on faith, family and sanctity of life issues.
